February Update

We’re still recovering from our weekend celebrating our Hyde Park manager Shelley’s wedding. The bride and the ceremony were both absolutely beautiful!

As if we weren’t already feeling the love, Valentines Day is just around the corner! Whether you’re single and looking to treat yourself with some self-love and pampering, or getting ready for a special date, why not check out our online offers so you’re looking your best. A great blow-dry is a Valentines Day essential! For inspiration we suggest taking cues from Adele at the Grammy Awards – think soft, romantic curls.

Finally, we’ve compiled a comprehensive list of Yots Hair client testimonials from around the web. If you’re interested in reading about how fabulous Yots Hair is, visit the testimonials page on www.yotshair.com.au.

I got my colour done here last thursday night after hearing good things from my friends, and i will definitely be making yots my regular hairdresser. My stylist (Tania) was lovely, and all the other staff were so accommodating towards me even though the salon was very busy. The salon was so warm and friendly, and i love my hair.” – Srhm87 (TrueLocal)

My friend from work recommended Yots to me after I had a couple of bad hair cuts and I am really happy that she did. The atmosphere was really positive inside the salon. The girls who did my hair were friendly and helpful, and my haircut looks great. The coffee was surprisingly excellent and i left feeling very pampered. The girls also talked to me about what products i should use to style my hair afterwards, which was really helpful. Will definitely be going back.” – Katerina (Womo)

Have been going to YOTS for 20+ years and cant speak highly enough about the whole experience. It is very easy for hairdressers to get bored with cutting short hair, but the guys at YOTS always make me feel very special, I come away with a great cut and colour every time, and even get cooking tips from Dim thrown in. They are really a very special talented group of people” – Judyals (Google)

I love this salon, they really do the best blondes in Adelaide. 5 Stars” – Karen N (HairSalon.com.au)

We hope that all our readers and clients have had a great start to 2012!

Rihanna goes blonde

We love a bit of celebrity gossip here at Yots – even more so when we can critique the colours and cuts of the rich and famous.

Most recently, we’ve been arguing about whether Rihanna’s new blonde hair is a wig or not (the general consensus was ‘hopefully’). The debate was put to rest when the singer revealed on her Twitter that she had, in fact, dyed her hair blonde for a cover shoot with Elle magazine.

(source: The Superficial)

We’re getting some serious Rod Stewart/Courtney Love vibes from these photos; but we’re holding out on making any real judgements until we see the Elle cover!

Hair trend of the month

TREND ALERT: BOMBSHELL

…because bigger is always better

(Bianca Balti by Giampaolo Sgura, Vogue Japan March 2012)

(Daisy Lowe by Will Davidson for Oyster #96)

To recreate the look, think all things opulent and over-the-top. Pair voluminous curls, or a tousled up-do with rich red nails, glossy lips and kitty-cat eyeliner. Add a healthy dose of hairspray as a finishing touch.

MAC Naillacquer in Rougemarie

Nars Eyeliner Stylo in Nuits Blanches

Redken Rootful 06 Root Lifting Spray.

This product is one of our personal favourites; it will boost your roots with long-lasting, touchable fullness that’s not stiff or sticky. It’s perfect for achieving big, luxurious hair and minimising flatness.

Voila! Instant Femme Fatale. Just add diamonds and Louboutins, and you’re ready to go!

New hair, don’t care

(Jing Ma by Lincoln Pilcher for Vogue China)

It wouldn’t be a new year without our clients coming in and requesting we make drastic changes to their hair. It’s the classic new year’s resolution; new year, new look. At Yots, we always encourage our clients to take baby steps. Making a radical change should be done in small steps, to avoid tears, tantrums and hair-related breakdowns.

Surprisingly, the biggest request so far this year has been a short fringe. We’re definitely a fan. It’s a small change, but still noticeable and can make all the difference to a basic, well-executed haircut. It’s the easiest way to mix up your look for 2012; perfectly on-trend and easy enough to grow out.

The short fringe does take us back to the 90′s (à la Drew Barrymore). To update the look for 2012, wear it with a sleek bob, or cropped hair, to avoid looking like you’ve stepped into a time machine. To help you out, we’ve put together some inspiration:

(Sarah Stephens by Yossi Michaeli for Glamour Mexico)

Sleek hair is everywhere this season, but a lot of our clients complain that it’s too hard to maintain. Our solution? Redken Smooth Down. These products will leave your hair smooth and shiny, allowing you to stay in control of dry, unruly hair. The Redken formula enriches and tames dry, coarse and unruly hair. These products utilise an Interbond Conditioning System, which delivers a unique Ionic Smoothing Complex of macadamia oil, candelilla wax and cationic refiners to help replenish oils, provide intense smoothing and a long-lasting, humidity-resistant, frizz-free finish. They’re a Yots client favourite!

Three things we love right now

1. Sky Ferreira channelling Madonna in V magazine (photographs by Mario Testino)

2. Marloes Horst and Kendra Spears (by Nicole Bentley) for the February 2012 issue of Vogue Australia. The voluminous blonde styles are perfect for Summer

3. Olivia Wilde’s new, lighter, lob

Whatever your colour…

2011 was all about avant-garde colour. Katy Perry went pink, Lauren Conrad dyed her tips rainbow and peach and Kate Bosworth rocked electric blue. Pastel shades and neon streaks were all over the runway and we did more dip-dyes on clients than we ever thought possible. Out of sheer nostalgia, we’re hoping to see a return to beautiful, natural shades in 2012. Here are our colour predictions to ring in the New Year.

For Brunettes: Rich, glossy shades with high shine, complemented by classic cuts

(Olga K by Angelo D’Agostino for Fashion Gone Rogue)

For Blondes: Delicate, ethereal colour, à la the Fanning sisters

For Redheads: We love Lily Cole’s fiery locks on the cover of Vogue Russia and Lana Del Rey’s subtle reddish tones

Our Top Three

What are our top three favourite things this week?

1. Kate Moss channeling David Bowie on the December/January cover of Vogue Paris proves that there’s nothing better than a a 70′s throwback

2. We’re obsessed with these Barbie hair makeovers, done by stylists from the London based Bleach salon

3. We’re getting our Holiday undo inspiration from the 1920′s Old Hollywood hair featured in the Romance Was Born’s SS11/12 collection lookbook

November Inspirations

By now it’s pretty obvious that we’re a sucker for a gorgeous blonde colour. And a blonde pixie cut? Even better! It’s no wonder we’re obsessed with this editorial (Mona Johannesson by Honer Akrawi, for Eurowoman). Now that the weather’s finally heating up, why not update your look by going a few shades lighter? If you’re thinking about transitioning to blonde, take a look at our blonde colour menu for inspiration.

For girls who are happy to hold on to to their long hair this season, take your style inspiration from the H&M Holiday Campaign and embrace curls.

PRODUCT RECOMMENDATION:
To get picture perfect curls, we recommend Fresh Curls by Redken. Whether your curls are flat, or frizzy, Fresh Curls addresses the specific needs of your hair. You can give a boost to lazy curls, or redefine unruly ones. Want to find out more? Check out our in salon range.
