Variety on King William 2014

Our team recently styled hair for the Variety on King William luncheon parade, which kicked off the Adelaide Fashion Festival.  We opted for a low ponytail, inspired by Jason Wu’s Spring 2015 show, with added volume. We also recreated the style for promotional shoots in the Advertiser and Messenger – check out the excitement below!

We Love: The Faux Undercut

Braided faux undercuts have been all over the red carpets and runways of late, most notably worn by Cara Delevingne at last year’s Met Gala. We’re dubbing the style our pick for the upcoming 2014 formal season – equal parts edgy, wearable and understated.

To recreate this look at home, begin by parting your hair deeply to one side, using the end of your eyebrow as a guide. Pin the parted hair out of the way. Using the hair on the undercut side, create between one and three horizontal braids, as close to the scalp as possible – for a stand out look we love french braids and dutch braids. When you reach the back of your head, pin each braid using a bobby pin. Remove the pin holding your remaining hair on the parted side, which will move to hide the pins securing the braids. For an amped up look, lightly tease the hair at the top of your head, and use a texturising spray on your loose hair.

2014 Forecast: The New Braid

Last year, summer hair was all about thick, boho inspired braids. Intricate braided styles graced the runway and red carpet, dominated updos and became a staple for lazy weekend hair. Braids are here to stay in 2014, but the trend has been reinvented – thick and fishtail braids are about to take a backseat to thinner and seemingly randomly placed styles.

For an everyday look, we love Karen Walker’s mini-braids – the perfect way to disguise a bad hair-day. To make the trend work, pair tiny messy braids with equally dishevelled locks. Be creative with placement – where you braid is entirely up to you.
