Variety on King William 2014

Our team recently styled hair for the Variety on King William luncheon parade, which kicked off the Adelaide Fashion Festival.  We opted for a low ponytail, inspired by Jason Wu’s Spring 2015 show, with added volume. We also recreated the style for promotional shoots in the Advertiser and Messenger – check out the excitement below!

New at Yots – Kevin.Murphy Plumping.Line

Yots Hair Kevin Murphy
We love nothing more than a product update so we’re excited to welcome the latest addition to the Kevin.Murphy range into our salons! Introducing Plumping.Line – a wash, rinse and treatment combo that promises to leave your hair thicker and fuller.

Kevin

“The PLUMPING line became a reality because of all the successes I had seen with eyelash thickening and lengthening products. The results I saw were quite astonishing because it actually works.  This technology was the inspiration for the line but I also looked at the successes that were being achieved with these types of men’s products as well. I then realised that there was nothing truly feminine on the market that helped women both on an emotional level and a therapeutic level” – Kevin Murphy
 Plumping-Line-Group-Shot
Plumping.Wash is a thickening shampoo for thinning hair. Ginger Root and Nettle Extracts densify fine strands, stimulating and nourishing the scalp. Plumping.Rinse thickens and strengthens hair, with added protective and hydrating benefits. Finish up with Body.Mass uses eyelash thickening technology, giving hair an instant boost and improving its condition over time. We’ve given the line a test-run – the products feel beautiful and work like a dream. We’re predicting that this line will fly off the shelves, so give them a try!

We Love: The Faux Undercut

Braided faux undercuts have been all over the red carpets and runways of late, most notably worn by Cara Delevingne at last year’s Met Gala. We’re dubbing the style our pick for the upcoming 2014 formal season – equal parts edgy, wearable and understated.

ImageImage

To recreate this look at home, begin by parting your hair deeply to one side, using the end of your eyebrow as a guide. Pin the parted hair out of the way. Using the hair on the undercut side, create between one and three horizontal braids, as close to the scalp as possible – for a stand out look we love french braids and dutch braids. When you reach the back of your head, pin each braid using a bobby pin. Remove the pin holding your remaining hair on the parted side, which will move to hide the pins securing the braids. For an amped up look, lightly tease the hair at the top of your head, and use a texturising spray on your loose hair.

Colour Pop

YOTS HAIR COPPER COLOUR

Bright copper colour took centre stage at our Summer photo shoot, paired with a blunt fringe and bold eyes. With Autumn  nearing, bright red tones have become the latest colour obsession amongst our stylists. The bold hues have particularly been picked up by our junior stylists, who have sported shades ranging from red to copper ombre to bright magenta colours. Perfect for someone who wants to stand out from the crowd, this attention grabbing trend is not for the faint of heart.

2014 Forecast: Romantic Up-styles

3c4b23bd070992596a89960aff8541b0

There’s nothing sweeter than a gorgeous romantic up-style. Soft, embellished hair took centre stage at the Dolce & Gabbana, Honor and Zac Posen 2014 Spring/Summer shows, paving the way for a trend that is totally wearable off the runway.

Romantic up-styles make for perfect bridal hair, but can also be worn for formals, or dressed down for the weekend when paired with a casual outfit. To nail this trend, keep hair soft and tousled, then add braids, flowers or dainty gold accessories.

2014 Forecast: Au Natural

This season, we’re  taking a natural approach to our waves and curls. The look is about no-fuss, low maintenance styles – but that’s no excuse for skipping your haircare and styling regimen altogether. If your hair is naturally straight, create loose waves with a styling iron and finish by lightly scrunching texturising spray into your hair. If your hair is naturally curly, apply an anti-frizz serum, let your locks dry naturally and add texturising spray to enhance movement. The look can be tailored to suit your style – whether you’re into beachy waves or something a little more grungy, it’s all about randomly placed, tousled waves and lived-in texture.

2014 Forecast: Rose Gold

rexusa-1829345ag

In December last year, Sienna Miller showed off ethereal rose-gold hair, sparking our obsession with a hue previously reserved for jewellery.

Our team has been gravitating away from unnatural colours this season, favouring classic blonde and brunette shades –  rose gold perfectly bridges the gap between the two extremes. We love it because it’s an entirely unnatural colour that’s somehow totally wearable, and starts to look better as it fades. What’s not to love?

2014 Forecast: The New Braid

Last year, summer hair was all about thick, boho inspired braids. Intricate braided styles graced the runway and red carpet, dominated updos and became a staple for lazy weekend hair. Braids are here to stay in 2014, but the trend has been reinvented – thick and fishtail braids are about to take a backseat to thinner and seemingly randomly placed styles.

For an everyday look, we love Karen Walker’s mini-braids – the perfect way to disguise a bad hair-day. To make the trend work, pair tiny messy braids with equally dishevelled locks. Be creative with placement – where you braid is entirely up to you.
